NB: On April 11, 2001 most US stations stopped webcasting, this is due to a dispute with AFTRA the major US talent union. The Union's new contract with advertising agencies calls for the talent who voice the commercials to be paid 300 percent of the session fee for commercials that also happen to be simulcast (that's simultaneous broadcasting) via the internet. Stations in most major US cities are off the internet, they may still have a website but no streaming is occurring. Radio groups who are affected include ABC, Clear Channel, Citadel, Entercom, and Emmis. Meanwhile, the RIAA, with the help of the US copyright office has ruled that the Digital Millennium Copyright Act applies to over the air streaming radio stations. This means broadcasters would pay a rights fee in addition to what they are already paying to BMI, ASCAP and Sesac. It looks like music radio stations will be not streaming for some time to come. Some stations have returned to the web, with the offending commercials eliminated. So you'll may hear dead air, rather than content of any sort. At this writing wtop, wabc, wls and kgo, are streaming. These are news and talk stations. For updated streaming news from the usa, check voanews.com. Kiss FM, a music station in Los Angeles is a Clear Channel music station streaming. Kiss FM uses hi-wires ad insertion technology to replace AFTRA commercials.
